Privacy and Security

We take privacy seriously. This page explains what personal data we collect to run the competition, how we use it, and the measures we take to keep it safe.

Who we are

The Student Investor Challenge is run by The London Institute of Banking & Finance. The online part of the competition was developed and is maintained by Refined Practice and their agents.

What data we collect

Our registration forms ask for contact details (such as name, email and postal address) and unique identifiers (such as a Teacher Reference Number, team login name and password).

How we use it

Your data lets you log in and take part in the competition online, and lets us send you the information you need to compete — for example, details of the semi-final stage. You can optionally opt in to a fortnightly news update about the competition, or to hear about other activities of The London Institute of Banking & Finance. You will never receive marketing from third parties, and you can change your preferences at any time by logging into your profile.

Data protection

We handle your personal data in line with relevant legislation, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Data is collected by Refined Practice on behalf of The London Institute of Banking & Finance and shared only between those parties and their agents for the purpose of running the competition. It is never passed to any other third party. We may occasionally contact you to verify and update the details we hold (for example, school contact details).

Security

All personal data you send us through this website is encrypted using the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) standard.

Seeing your data

Most of the data we hold can be accessed securely from the team edit page using your team name and password. You also have the right to request everything we hold against your records; we will supply it within 30 days of receiving your request.

Cookies

When you carry out certain transactions with us online, your browser stores small pieces of information called cookies. A cookie is a small text file kept temporarily by your browser so the site can recognise you during your visit. We use session (non-persistent) cookies to identify you when you log into a password-protected area; they are removed when you close your browser.

If you have any questions about this policy or the data we hold, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
